X60T networking vs. VMWare Workstation

#1 Post by bral » Tue Dec 26, 2006 3:56 am

Has anyone else had trouble installing VMWare Workstation on their X60/X60 Tablet?

Tonight I installed it for the first time on my new X60 tablet, and my network functions went down the tube immediately after installing it. At first I thought the virtual host adapters it installed might be the issue, but removing them didn't help. Uninstalling VMWare didn't help. It took removing both the Atheros a/b/g/n card driver and the Intel Pro/100 nic driver and readding them to fix the problem.

(The wireless would not let me turn the radio on, and the Intel nic was telling me it couldn't get a DHCP response. Both devices passed PC doctor tests.)

I'll try it again later but was wondering if anyone else had experienced these problems.

I don't have a tablet; have an x60s. I also know squat about VMWare, but I have installed the player and am running several linus distros with no network problems in the guest linux OS's and in the Windows XP host.

I've been using VM Workstation 5.5 w/ my X60s for months, no problem. I've been a VMWare user for 3 years now and have never had a problem on any laptop.

I have the Intel card on mine just an an fyi.

Running XP and have ran Linux, Win 2K and 2K3 Server and XP guests.

I always use VMNet0 for the ethernet interface, if you try it again, a suggestion would be to check I believe NAT is the default, which shares an IP address with your host, maybe that was conflicting with something on your host.
