i ordered an X60 Tablet on 12/11. "estimated ship date" has been 12/26 since i placed the order. i looked today, and it's been changed to 2/13, a slip of 7 weeks!!! arghhh!!!

details of the order (cut from the lenovo order status website) are attached below.

currently, the SXGA+ screen is not orderable on the lenovo website; perhaps it is the cause of the delay?

Wow... that is a looooog time. I'm considering making the plunge as well. Did they mention anything about being Vista compatible or will Lenovo give a coupon for free upgrade to Vista from XP professional in Feb 07? This is not mentioned ANYWHERE on their web site

thanks

GM

That's the net.speculation. I've yet to hear of someone who's received one.

I have one on order and am not looking forward to the Estimated Shipping Date jumping out again.

On the GottaBeMobile X60T interview inkshow, I think it was said that there would be a free upgrade to Vista Business.

note in my original post, one of the items is "42R8988 SBB MS LABEL ( VISTA CAPABLE )", so i'm sure it's compatible. i'm sure i've seen somewhere on the lenovo website that you can order a vista upgrade for just the cost of shipping.

although, i, for one, will avoid vista as long as possible because of its unbelievably evil DRM implementation (take a look at this) and probably switch to a mac or linux when microsoft drops support for XP.

Lenovo really needs to get their act straight and maintain an inventory. I can see on CTO orders having, maybe, a 2-3 week delay, but they should have a set of ready to ship systems that ship same or next day. Apple does it, HP/Compaq does it, and I'm sure there are others. Even a CTO Dell only has a few week delay.
It seems I lucked out when I ordered my X60s back in July, I only had to wait 3 weeks.
But, seriously, Thinkpads are among the best laptops on the market, and they can't get their act together enough to not have 2+ month delays.

gave up, cancelled order, bought a MacBook Pro

couldn't wait 2 wks plus 7 additional wks. x60 tablet was for my son, a college student, who needs his new machine up and running before the new semester starts next week.

got a macbook pro instead. very cool machine! first non-windows machine in our family (not counting a linux server) but likely not the last. no more hassles with product activation, "content protection," etc.

next step is to experiment with linux on the desktop, using my old laptop. deciding between suse 10.2 and fedora core 6...

I ordered a Multitouch/Multiview on 12/10. First ship date was 12/25, delayed to 1/8. Now my ship date is 1/22. Man it is gonna be fun not having a laptop for college.

Here is something on Lenovo's blog regarding shipping delays with the X60 Tablet.
