X60s not sitting flat on desk

I have two X60s Thinkpads and they both don't sit flat on the desk. It seems that one of the foot pads is slightly taller then the others or the TP chassis is slightly twisted as the TP rocks across the bottom right and top left corners.

I'm finding this very annoying as when typing the TP rocks slightly. Does anyone else have this problem? I've checked that everything - battery and all covers are properly secure.

Yeah, the front-right of mine doesn't quite sit flat.

My solution was just to stick two extra rubber feet near the front edges. The ones I used are quite tall so the front is elevated a little more than normal, which I prefer anyway, and the laptop sits flat.

My old R50 didn't sit flat either.

This is a known problem with the pads (don't twist the X60 trying to fix the problem). Search the forum for the solution.

There is a thread about the X60 having some rubber feet that are slightly thinner on the front, right corner than the others.

I noticed it on me too and called to get some new rubber feet. Funny thing though, before I attempted to replace them I pressed the existing rubber feet as hard, and as safely, as I could. Problem fixed.

My 1704-5LG X60s model had this very same problem. It's European model if that means anything, but in Europe, no rubber pads are to be sold by authorised resellers (service providers). Customer service here had to order the whole bottom part (chasis) and were just about to replace it. However, they first changed the pads (both new) but STILL it wouldn't sit flat. They took the laptop apart in order to change the lower chasis, but before doing so, simply put it back again... it worked. They said it must have been a problem with "putting it together" and it got "twisted".

So - they took it apart, together again - it now sits perfectly flat on the table.

It was very annoying for me too, typing and laptop hopping up and down as i pressed.

James, that's interesting what you're saying. Do you know how much of the laptop they stripped down before reassembling it? I might have a go at doing that myself. It sounds like the something inside is not evenly tightened up and thus distorting the chassis slightly. I don't really want to strip my TP but since I live in Europe too, getting new foot pads isn't an option by what you say.

On the other hand, those that obtained new foot pads say it solved their problem (according to another thread) which seems to indicate that the pads were at fault. I'm confused

To cover all the bases, I think I'll order some pads from the US and have them delivered to my sister-in-law in CT for her to post to me. Does anyone have a part number?

I got my two TPs in July last year. If what James says is correct, then there is a problem on Lenovo's assembly line and I would have thought it would have been corrected fairly quickly. Is this still happening to the new batches coming off the line?

I have same problem.
I called the support about it in september or something in order to get new pads (thats what I've read on this forum) but the guy said that that wasn't the problem (however you could try to adjust the new pads so that they would be leveled).

To his knowledge the problem was not identified and that they currently had a customer that they were working with to get it fixed.

They had apparently replaces the motherboard, the screen (huh

), and pretty much everything in it without success. Sound strange but he recommended me to call back in a few months to see if they had come up with a solution...

Haven't called back but maybe I should.

I was a bit annoyed by it at first but when I realized it was normal I haven't been that annoyed by it. But it does tilt somewhat sometimes when typing...

I have a TP that did the same. It was kinda racked.

I fixed mine by turning it upside down on a flat surface and loosening all of the screws in the bottom. Loosen, no need to remove. Retighten and it sat flat on the table afterwards. I think it was assembled with this factory warp when they set all the screws.

Sort of like changing a flat tire. Tighten the screws gradually in an alternating pattern.

I didnot notice this problem on my X60S. I did replaced the keyboard though.

This thread was a great help. New X61s 7668CTO here.

The front right corner was also 'in the air' on a flat surface about 3-4mm

. Wondering what was up (pardon the pun) as previous TPs 365xd, 770ed, 600e were all completely square.

Checked for the incorrect rubber pads, but these pads seemed correct/OK.

Found this thread and looked up the current HMM showing 4 screws for the keyboard and 6 for the bottom chassis. Loosened all ten (but not completely backed out), flipped it over and left the front 'high corner' hanging off the edge with a tiny weight on it the whole weekend to sort of un-torque it.

Tonight I set it on a flat surface and evenly torqued the chassis screws, then the remaining keyboard screws (like changing a tire as someone mentioned above, criss-cross).

99% better. The lid is still trying to twist the chassis, but it'll probably work out over time and with natural heat from usage.

Would be interesting to know it Lenovo tech has an actual tightening pattern they use when assembling TPs.

I had the exact same problem with my X40 5 years ago. I sent it back to IBM and told the store. They told me I was being "overly critical". My solution: extra rubber pads. But last week I took my X40 to a shady PC mall in China and whoa! - I had the entire case replaced and the problem was gone!

This is a known issue which is nothing more than the front rubber pads that the computer sits on being 1mm thicker on one side than the other. You cannot see the difference as it is so small. For a period of time Lenovos vendor shipped pads that were of two sizes by mistake.

I simply called Lenovo & got two new pads of the same size & that took care of it. There is no need to make this into a big project, or something it's not.
