Verizon EVDO Rev A PCMCIA replacing mini-pci EVDO Rev 0.

After 13 months of service I got the Verizon Sierra Wireless EVDO Rev A PCMCIA card for about $100. It is considerably faster than the Rev 0, especially on upload, but also on download. It has an antenna port for a booster antenna which I am purchasing when it comes out next week. Ping times are outstanding as well which is useful for VOIP. Now I should be able to do the webcam from my Verizon EVDO which reasonable quality. Rev A feels much snappier than Rev 0. Rev A will be built-in with Santa Rosa platform in Q2 2007.

It feels considerably faster than Rev 0.
You should install using vzam.net This will get you the latest VZ Access Manager including for Vista if you want it.
I have a Lenovo/IBM laptop with a built-in EVDO Rev. 0 Sierra Wireless 5720 device.
1. Turn off the built-in EVDO Rev 0. in BIOS under WAN
2. I uninstalled the Lenovo VZ Access Manager.
3. I deleted leftover files in c:\programs\sierra and c|programs\Verizon
4. Use regedit and delete the keys under software as well under Sierra, Verizon and Smith Micro [they wrote the VZ Access software]
5. Uninstall the 5720 from device manager under a) modems and b) usb devices.
6. Restart
7. Install software downloaded from vzam.net with PC card not in laptop and follow instructions for inserting PC Card. It will then prompt for a firmware update to EVDO Rev A.
