IBM X60 "blackScreen" shutdown

#1 Post by GoC007 » Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:35 am

I am having problems with a number of IBM X60's which just shutdown without any logical reason. IBM are not interested in helping out with this problem. My users are using both 4 and 8 cell batteries, the only way they are able to restart the laptops is to remove the battery, reconnect the power and wait sometimes for up to 30mins before the laptop will start. Has anyone had the same problem.?

You might need to update the BIOS. See the fix in the latest BIOS update below.
Lenovo wrote:Version 7BETC4WW (2.06)

(New) Maximum Graphics Memory size increases to 224MB. (BIOS)
(Fix) If the computer is forcibly shut down by special conditions (such like the power button being pressed for seconds or the battery down in suspend mode), the computer may not work after power on. (BIOS)
(Fix) The computer may be shutdown by a certain 3G GPRS card in the PC card slot. (EC)
(Fix) Once Active Protection System is disabled, it cannot be enabled again until the system is restarted. (EC)

EDIT: I would appreciate hearing back if this fixes your problem or not. BTW, welcome to the forum! :)

Thank you very much for your reply, from the link you gave me it look like this will solve the problem as two of the "fixes" are applicable in our case, both battery and 3G GPRS card. We will be implementing this BIOS upgrade next week and I will keep you posted. Once again thanks.
