strange thing, in cpu properties

#1 Post by tadler » Fri Jan 12, 2007 7:28 pm

maybe a stupid question, but i need to know. when i check cpu properties (in system properties - right click on "my computer") i see my cpu speed - L2400 @ 1.66GHZ, and below it reads - 980MHZ. why is it 980 MHZ? should it be this way? if not how to change it to give the full speed?

thank you

It scales down to 998 when there is no load. Try running something like Prime95 (or just something processor intensive) and then check the properties. Also check your power manager settings...I think the Thinkvantage Power Manager can hold the processor speed down even under load, but I'm not 100% sure.

This is the speedstep technology of the cpu, it clocks down whenever you don't need the cpu power for battery saving. You can change the setting on power manager, either cpu can be change to slow, max, or adaptive.
I love thinkpads
