50 hz refresh rate

#1 Post by dclee012 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 8:08 pm

What's with the 50 hz refresh rate?

I thought 60 was the standard. I am running an x60s on WinXPP, fresh install w/ lenovo drivers. Is it supposed to be 50hz (to save batt?), or is something wrong?

Thanks

I believe the X60s (though maybe only with the ultralite display?) uses 50 Hz LCD refresh rather than the more common 60 Hz.

With LCD technology, there is no display quality difference between 50 Hz and 60 Hz. CRTs would be a different story ...

Actually, if you play back 60fps content, like television shows recorded in MPEG-2, the frame drops are noticeable.

I used to have that problem. With the newest bios and intel video drivers I got 60hz back without a problem. Try them out

Did the new drivers bring back 40hz?

I installed the latest bios and intel drivers a few days ago. I only have 50hz available.

Hmmm. If that's the case, wouldn't our European friends have an issue with the 60 Hz LCDs? I will say that I have not noticed any issues watching European TV captures on my 60 Hz panel, although I haven't actually been looking for problems.

NTSC frame rate is 30 Hz, PAL is 25 Hz.
