Problems with fingerprint reader/software on X60s

I recently purchased an X60s, and installed it on my university's Novell network. I usually use the X60s under Workstation Only mode. I also activated the fingerprint reader.

MOST of the time, now, when I turn on the computer and scan my fingerprint, the computer boots fine. However, once in a while when I scan my fingerprint, the green check mark appears (indicating, I assume, that the fingerprint was kosher, but then it says that the password failed. The Novell login window then appears. ALMOST ALL the time, entering my password lets me long in. ONCE, even that failed, and I had to shut the computer down, and reboot bypassing the fingerprint scanner. I am worried that one day even the rebooting will not work.

The computer support people have no clue as to what is going on, and it doesn't help that the problem is intermittent. They do tell me that if the computer doesn't reboot at all, they can retrieve the stuff on the hard drive, but it's a pain in the neck.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it likely to be a problem with the fingerprint scanner, the Novell software, or the interactions between the two? I must say that other Lenovo users at the University who have fingerprint scanners have not reported any problems. Am I just imagining things?
