Max ram & HDD

Hi all, this is my first post so be gentle. I have an x60s with 1gig of ram and a 60gig HD. When I read the lenovo service manual on the x60s it says that I can add 3gig of ram BUT Crucial.com says that the maximum is 2gig. Same for the HDD, what is the max spec that I can?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think the 3gb is total, so if you already have 1gb, then you can add 2gb to make 3. If Crucial says 2 is the max then I think that might be because they don't have a 2gb module to sell you.
The "practical" limit remains 2gb, since the 2gb chips are both slower and hugely more expensive right now, and there isn't a whole lot of interest in $500 2gb chips, when 1gb chips are running around $100. Plus, Windows XP can't necessarily use it anyway.
As to the hard drive size, I don't know. I would look at available configurations of your notebook on the Lenovo website, or what size they will sell you as an option, as a guide. At the moment the bigger notebook hard drives are around 160gb and I'm almost certain you could use that. Once notebook drives start coming out in truly gargantuan sizes like 300gb, you might need a bios update in order to use them.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to strip the 2 x 512 and install 2 x 1gig. As for the HD I'll take the advice and review the lenovo site. It never amazes me how quickly you can eat a HD with your day to day apps.

well best available hd to upgrade is 200gb from toshiba but with a 4200rpm.
max hd upgrade from lenovo is 120gb so for sure a 120gb capacity is supported.
best hd to upgrade is 160gb and well, IMO, it can support it as many current notebooks are made to support it

which is surprising to me because Thinkpads are manufactured in China and some of the available configurations have the 7200 rpm SATA drives in them. Also, they are being made in Thailand (and maybe other places, all of which are in the far east).

Gunston just hasn't looked hard enough.
http://www.eyo.com.au has several 7200rpm 2.5" HDD's. And that's the only Australian online store I've checked.

I have a Hitachi 5K160 (5400rpm 160GB) SATA in my X60 (1706-B35) and it works beautifully... Purchased from a non IBM outlet as a bare drive S$220. The created restore CD/DVD worked no probs and infact I backed up the original 80GB Toshiba to an external USB2 disk and restored back to the 160GB ... took a few hours but was flawless. Bios is currently V2.00f
hoping to go 300GB once they are available and affordable.
What to do with the 80GB? ... we thoughts include getting a Slim Ultrabay SATA tray and use it in there as a ipod copy area for my 80GB video, or perhaps run it up with Suse 10.2 and scare the IBM support people when a warranty issue turns up
