Is it normal that you are able to perform factory restore only once?
I don't have the option available no more when pressing the blue button on startup, as well as R&R is gone. Probably these two are connected. However, I am wondering, if i wanted to do a factory restore again - would i even be able to -would i have to install R&R?
Thanks

This problem happens when you upgrade Rescue and Recovery from the original version to a newer version.
Lenovo wrote:Symptom
Any machine that has IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra 1.0 or IBM Rescue and Recovery 2.0 factory preloaded, then installs Rescue and Recovery 3.0, will lose the ability to have Rescue and Recovery installed on the machine after a Restore to Factory contents action is selected when booting from the computer's hard drive.
Rescue and Recovery 3.0 updates the contents of the recovery environment stored on the computer's hard drive. Restoring to Factory contents does not alter the recovery environment and could result in an inconsistent configuration. Therefore, the ability for the factory preload to install IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra 1.0 or IBM Rescue and Recovery 2.0 after Rescue and Recovery 3.0 has been installed was purposely disabled.
Solution
It is recommended that you create Recovery CDs prior to installing any software. If this is done, Restoring to Factory contents using the Recovery CDs will restore both the recovery environment as well as the preloaded version of Rescue and Recovery into Windows. If the Recovery CDs were not created before installing Rescue and Recovery 3.0, before doing a Restore to Factory Contents you may wish to copy the Rescue and Recovery 3.0 installation files off to external media so you will not have to download from the Web again.
I don't know if this will work, but you can try installing the original version of Rescue and Recovery again. I am not sure which folder it would be in on an X60 series, but on my T42 it is in: C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\IBMRNR.

If i do what you recommend, then I would get back R&R + factory restore option within "press blue button on startup"?

I don't know for sure. I am just speculating that this might work, but what do you have to lose to try it?

I just want to know this in case I would be "forced" into factory restore, as currently, I guess I can't perform it.
I performed it recently and x60s is running great! Much much faster then before, even when it was new (no RR and CSS installed currently)
Btw. does R&R slow the computer down, even if there are no backups schedualed?

If you had burned yourself a Product Recovery Disc set, you could always use that set to Restore Factory Contents. It may be too late to burn a set now, but you could give it a try.
You can uninstall Rescue and Recovery from Windows Add or Remove Programs if you find it slows down your system. Offhand I would not expect much, if any, of a performance hit for having Rescue and Recovery installed, as long as you are not making or have scheduled any R&R backups.

I did burn a set of a CD and DVD for recovery purposes. Thanks for letting me know that I can do a factory restore from that as well.
I guess i won't be installing R&R than, as i use other bkp software.
Cheers

Have you installed R&R yet after recovery?
If you did't have R&R installed, so recovery using blue button won't work.
For me, I must install R&R manually every time after factory restore because it's not preloaded.
