Hi!

I know this is a thinkpad forum. And I know I should only be asking for help regarding my x60s, but i am about to get my behind kicked if i don't fix my girlfriend's HP laptop.

The issue is very annoying and i have tried pretty much all options i found on other forums. Since i had my question answered everytime i posted it here, i decided i should at least try. so hopefully (I am begging you) i will get some response here... So here goes...

I would like to be able to drive an external monitor (see below for details) from the laptop (NX7010). I can get an identical display on both screens, but the display on the external monitor is grumbled/bad. it is extended beyond the edges to both sides, it is blurry etc.

I believe i read somewhere on this forum that you can manually enter resolution somewhere i the registry...

What am I missing, can anyone suggest a (any) method?

System:
HP NX7010 laptop
Mobility Radeon 9200 - 64 Mb RAM
1680 * 1050 resolution on 15,4" lcd

External display: Fujitsu-Siemens LCD Scaloiview L22-1W, 1680x1050, 75 HZ capable.

The manual registry edit was to fool the Presentation Director (before it was updated recently). Windows can normally see the proper resolutions available.

Is it possible the monitor has an "automatic" calibration function you can run through the monitor's On Screen Display menus?

You might also try updating her laptop's display/graphics drivers.

im not sure i quite understand the question. You can't get identical displays on the laptop and external monitor without it being blurry because the external monitor is supposed to run natively at 1650x1050. You can only run it at extended to get it to stay sharp. The problem is that your laptop can't run 1650 x 1050 on its own screen, so the external will try to mimic the laptop resolution, thereby making it grainy.

The laptop and external display appear to have the exact same resolutions...1680x1050

Language barrier

Laptop native resolution is 1680x1050. Same as external LCD. I have laptop docked and want the external monitor to show 1680x1050 pix. res.

Monitor connected via VGA d-sub cable with my x60s "operates" perfectly normal, so everything is ok with ext. monitor.

The problem seems to be somwhere between HP laptop and external display. I don't know how to solve the problem and I would really love to get some help... I can't even set the resolution for display #1 to 1680x1050 in display setting on the HP laptop. Technical sheet says that the laptop is 2048x___ capable via vga output, so it SHOULD work. How?!

So I guess there is no readily available solution available.. that's sad. I was really hoping to get an answer but as it seems, the best solution is to replace HP with thinkpad
