Think you have an extra mini PCI express slot? WRONG! (Pic)

I opened up my X60 yesterday to add a WWAN card. What a disappointment!
THERE'S NO SECOND SLOT! The motherboard has a blank area with an I/O contact clearly intended for a second mini PCI express card, but Lenovo cheaped out on including the card slot?!
Totally unacceptable.
It does make the omission of a WWAN antenna pre-wire (also disappointing) a non-issue though.

I could have sworn when I exchanged my WiFi cards I saw a second slot... maybe they've changed production techniques since I bought my X60s.

Just to be sure you are describing the correct item, please verify by watching the following removal movie.
Mini PCI Express Card Removal Movie
According to the movie, there are two Mini PCI Express Cards side by side. The WWAN card is the one to the left. To the right of the WWAN card is the WLAN (WiFi) card. To the left of WWAN card is the Modem Daughter Card.

I could have sworn that's what I saw, only I don't have a WWAN card to fill the slot.

Yep, absolutely sure.
The white slot marked by the red arrow is what's missing. My WLAN card is on the left side (from this perspective), and on the right side there's nothing. I don't have the green thing sitting on top of the slots in an L-shape either.
Received this 1709-G3U maybe a month ago.

Lenovo never guarantees 2 minipci slots on X60/s. Based on what I read from asian thinkpad forums, a few users took their X60/s apart and found that models without WWAN do not have the 2nd (empty) slot.

Majority of X60s models do not come with WWAN.
For your question, you are supposed to know before you pay for your X60s
X60s with extra antenna
X60s with WWAN or MIMO WiFi gets the extra antenna shown above. You can also look for a Sierra Wireless device in Windows' Device Manager.

This one was of the first things i noticed when i changed my lan card. I was also very disappointed they chose not to install the slot. Seems like a very small price to pay for the option of future upgrades. Penny wise dollar foolish if you ask me.

I may return mine through Amex.
I customized mine online. $20 would be a huge markup on an extra slot and antenna, and I would gladly have paid it. No matter the price, at least it's clear that a second slot isn't included.
Here's how machine number 1709 is listed in tabook:
Two Mini PCI Express slots / only 802.11 wireless is customer upgradable
That's pretty outrageous. It should say "One Mini PCI Express slot and a hole where the second should be."
