Hey all... first-time poster, long-time fan.

I'm having some problems with my X60s (which I've put in another post http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=40087.)

I purchased my X60s from an online vendor last October.

For the life of me, I cannot remember if the system came with a Recovery CD. Is that what the Rescue and Recovery sector is for when you boot? If the latter is true, I can't recover from the Rescue and Recovery

I'm diligent about saving all of my hardware CDs in a dedicated binder, and I cannot find one for my X60s. I know that many new computers/laptops these days have their recovery programs stored in a secure partition on the HDs.

I want to verify that I am not going insane here.

Lenovo does not send recovery disks anymore with new machines so you almost certainly did not receive a set. They do send out sets in certain circumstances, such as when they replace a hard drive under warranty.

You can make your own set of recovery CDs, and will find the application to do this through "ThinkVantage Technologies" on your desktop. There are detailed threads on these forums that give step by step instructions if you need them, but I think you can figure out how to do this yourself in 2 minutes.

The program will allow you to make one set; if you recover your laptop to the factory setting with recovery disks or with the service partition (blue button on bootup), then you can make another set as well. You will need either about 7 blank CDs or 1 CD and 1 dvd.

I assume you blew away the service partition? If that is the case, then unfortunately, you also blew away your ability to reload it to factory contents.

You can order recovery CDs off the support website as well, but I think they are like $40 or something.

I also recommend that you create restore CDs prior to deleting the factory partition, but at this point, that just sounds like sour grapes.

Also you can call lenovo and ask for the recovery cds and they might send them to you for free.

Say that you're thinking of replacing the harddrive or something.

I wonder if I should use this opportunity to do a clean install of Vista? Hmmm...

I guess I should work on recovering my data first.
