Screen 'bouncing' when coming out of sleep mode

#1 Post by IsYet » Fri Mar 30, 2007 12:11 am

I've had my X60 for about a week and have an intermittent problem with the screen reslution and settings coming out of sleep mode.

The screen flips through different resolutions and settings.
This usually goes on for about 10-15 seconds before it settles down. Some times longer.

Most of the time, but not always, it winds up in the proper configuration.

Some times though, the resolution is wrong (too low on the tablet) and the external monitor connected to the dock isn't set correctly. The resolution is changed (too low) and it's on the wrong side; it was on the left before going to sleep but is on the right after waking up.

I've noticed this mostly when the tablet is docked and I'm using the internal and an external monitor.

I've also noticed this behavior when undocked but this has been very rare, only a couple times. I think it's when the screen is in a different orientation between going to sleep and waking up.

Thinking that the Lenovo Presentation Manager and the Windows settings were conflicting, I disabled the Lenovo software. Two programs in the startup list in Windows Defender.
This seemed to help some.
The occurances are intermittent now whereas they were happening every time before.

I haven't seen a pattern yet to identify what is different when it works and when it doesn't.

Thanks in advance.
This is my 2nd tablet. I've been using a Toshiba M200 for the last 2-3 years.
My 1st experience with Vista.
Also my 1st Thinkpad.

I'm out of town for the weekend so it may be Monday 4/2 before I can get back to this.[/b]

Hi,

Did you try to update the BIOS to the latest one (2.09). It has some fixes regarding your problem.

Try it and post the results.

Hope it helps,
Miri

Bios update?

#3 Post by IsYet » Fri Mar 30, 2007 8:17 am

Thanks for the suggestion.

Newbie question:
Where do I get the bios update?
I found this site referenced in another post
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4YRRG6

Is this the place to start?
What's the process?

Additional behavior
The screen won't brighten after waking up.
Seems like it stays on the last setting before going to sleep.
The screen brightness settings don't affect anything (function-home, function-end).

I've seen this happen 3 times.
Restarting fixes it but I'd prefer to not do this of course.

Thanks Miri.

After my last post, I fonud the Lenovo (IBM) downloads page, id'ed my machine (6365-CTO) and landed on the download page.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67148

It lists a bios upgrade dated 3/29/2007.
But it says it's 1.07.
Version: 7JET22WW (1.07)
Release Date: 2007/03/29

Not sure if that's the installer version or the bios version or...
I didn't download it and I haven't reviewed the page you sent.
Will do that Sunday or Monday.

Any clarification about the versions would be helpful.
Thanks again.

Hi, Welcome to what I call the BLINKING LCD problem. This is a driver problem notice when you bring the computer out of sleep in the login box it still has this problem. The only solution I have thought was to use the generic ms drivers or use windows vista. Vista's default drivers work quite well with the x60 but this will be at the cost of battery life
