ul screen in x60 anyone?!

#1 Post by tian » Sat Mar 31, 2007 9:26 am

hi there,

i was just wondering if anyone has managed to successfully replace their x60 screen with an ultralight (x60S) screen? (interested in doing this for the extra brightness)

i presume all that i need to do is order the correct lcd and slot it in?

You need the LCD cover kit (cover and bezel), hinges, WLAN antennas, and LCD cable in addition to the LCD panel. You do not need a new inverter.

Note: If you already have the WWAN antenna on your present LCD cover, then that can be moved to the new cover as the WWAN antenna is the same.

Just out of curosity how much is it and can I put other types of LCDs on it as well. Will the brightness settings still work if I replace the LCDs?

I'm hoping that when they next refresh the X60/s series, they release 1400x1050 12.1" screens. With any luck one of the options will share the same bezel and hinges etc. and make a very nice mid-life upgrade :)

I'm not sure if anybody's tried this before, but SXGA+ screens (1400x1050) on a 15" is very comfortable.

On a 14", it's still pretty OK.

On a 12", I cannot imagine how difficult it will be like for the eyes to make out icons and words at 12pt fonts..

come now - dont be a party pooper :D :-P

if sxga+ dpi is too high cant we just change the dpi settings accordingly (settings->advanced->general->dpi setting)? though i have to admit 1024*768 is quiet a comfortable res on a 12" screen, i do occasionally crave for a little more desktop real estate.

plus, they have sxga+ option for x60t so it must be at least usable.

it would be very nice if they did release a higher res panel that would fit in my x60 without too many extra parts, but if they are going to charge +£150 for the whole thing i might just spend the money on a 15" monitor instead

I was about to suggest that. For 150 pounds you can get much more than a 15" monitor :D

Still as external monitors on my X60 gives crap quality, I'm still interested in a replacement screen for my X60.
