X60 Bios with SLIC data

#1 Post by pdudas » Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:12 am

Hi!

I ordered a Vista Business from Moduslink upgradeweb.
Waiting for arrive (confirmed).

I know Vista Business activates itself (without internet connection) if the SLIC data is in the Bios (acpi tables). I checked my X60s, and there is no slic data in my bios (2.09 version, because I tried to update it to see if the SLIC data flashing with the last Vista compatible bios) (Everest Ultimate Edition Version 3.80.961 Beta).

Do you know if the Vista upgrade flash the bios to have the SLIC data in it? If I have no slic in the bios, how can I activate the vista? They'll send me a product key (if somebody got the upgrade dvd from moduslink, please tell me how did he activated the vista!)?

Asked the lenovo support here in Hungary, but they dont know how will my Vista be activated....

So I found a solution:

If somebody has an X60s with factory vista, surely he has slic in the bios. He only have to backup the bios with the winphlash.exe and the slic data will be in the backup. I only have to flash it to my x60s.
I think the backup does not contain any sensitive data from the thinkpad made from. No serial number, no passwords, no settings in it. Only the bios and the needed SLIC table.

So: if somebody has Vista on the X60s from Lenovo (ordered vith Vista), and would be so kind to do a favor to the forum members, please do the following:

1: download the 2.07 bios from here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... uj16us.exe

2: Run the exe file.
It makes a directory under c:\drivers\flash\7buj16us and extract the files there.

3: Run the winphlash.exe from this directory.
You should check the Backup bios only checkbox!

4: You must browse the $01a5000.fl1 file at the Specify new bios file (select all files and after that you can select it). (Without the new bios file the backup not working. Dont worry, if you check the backup bios only, this utility will not flash your bios).

5: Specify backup file for existing bios: you should browse to the place where the utility will backup the bios of your thinkpad. Please give it a name bios.rom.

6: Press the Backup BIOS button!

After that please send me a PM!
(I will send the files to every forum members if it needs)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about others, but in my locale (Australia) it's barely possible to buy an X60 with Vista pre-installed -- it's only available on one configuration, and it's only just been listed on the web site.

My Vista Business CD (from the express upgrade programme) is in the mail too; I assume/expect it will use whatever "royalty OEM" locks that are already present for WinXP and Office 2003.

There are people in the Vista forum who have already received their express upgrade discs; there's a long thread there about it.
