Wireless and dial-up at the same time?
Wireless and dial-up at the same time?
I have problem. Maybe you can help. I recently installed a dial-up service (Orange in the UK) so I could use internet/email while out in the sticks. Now I'm back at home with wireless broadband. My web browser (firefox) and email (thunderbird) work fine. But, other programs that require web connections (e.g., I-tunes) do not. For example, I cannot connect to the Itunes web server -- the program tells me that the connection is not allowed and to check my network connections. Note - these programs are not firewalled. It seems that they are trying to use a dial-up connection which isn't present, instead of (like firefox and thunderbird) realising that the default network connection is now the wireless. Any ideas how to help with this one? Many thanks indeed.

Thanks, I tried this but it didn't work. What worked in the end was the following:
Go to control panel -> internet options -> connections -> LAN settings, then turn off, uncheck the 'proxy server' box and check the 'automatically detect settings' box. I also had to ensure that the dialup connection (firefly) was disabled as the default connection.
IE still claims to be 'provided by firefly' which is a bit worrying, but at least my non-Mozilla programs can now connect to the web.
