New X60s with Core 2 Duo L7400 1.5 GHz 4MB L2 cache
Since yesterday the Lenovo site is offering an option for the X60s Ultralight with the L7400 Low Voltage Core 2 Duo chip.
This LV Core 2 Duo chip needs 17W as against the 15W of the older L2400 chip - can anyone hazard a guess as to the effect on performance and battery life for an X60s using the new chipset? My own guess is slightly better performance even with the reduced clock speed (1.50 GHz on the Core 2 Duo against 1.67 GHz on the Core Duo) and a negligible difference in battery life.
I need to replace my X41 which is on it's 3rd replacement 60GB HD in 2 years, which is yet again showing signs of failing, and I am leaning towards the new Core 2 Duo model of the X60s rather than the older model with Core Duo. Current orders are showing shipping dates around 2 weeks away, so I need to order quickly so that the machine can be delivered to my friend in the US in time for me to collect it when I visit on vacation in the 2nd week of May.
For me, low temp and battery life are far more important than raw speed - I think the Core 2 Duo has a reputation for running much cooler than the Core Duo, but since the Intel chart shows both CPUs as being 65-nm parts I don't know if there will be much difference.
All opinions welcome.

Did you receive your 1705-CTO? Does it indeed have the Ultralight LCD?billyb wrote:Sorry, no, you can have both the Ultralight screen and Bluetooth. While these options may not be available in any pre-built model, they are certainly available in the 1705CTO - I just ordered one.

Apologies for the delay in updating this thread - I have been travelling through Africa and with my heavy workload and spotty Internet access didn't have any time to access the Forum till I returned home.
No, no delivery - I got a polite call on April 9 informing me that there was a glitch on their system, this machine was not yet ready to ship, and would I like to amend my order to the old Core Duo model which is shipping now.
I said no, please do not bill my card, I will wait, and in reply confirming that they have not charged anything to my card, was also offered a $150 discount to apply against my next purchase from Lenovo!!!
I asked if he (Lenovo rep's name - James) had any idea when these machines would be ready to ship, he replied that they had no fixed shipping schedule for the Core 2 Duo machines in the X Series, and that I should monitor the website.
I also asked why there was no 5400 rpm 160 GB HD option on the X Series like there is on the T Series, why does the X Series only have 120 GB as the top option when the drives are the same physical size and have roughly the same power consumption characteristics. He had no answer for that.
So I think it may not be possible for me to update my old X41 when I visit North America this time, it will be perhaps another couple of months before these machines are ready to go - that was the impression I got from this call.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
