Not all HD space available?

I have a 80GB hard drive and it only says 70GB in the C drive properties. I know that usually some is lost in the formatting and whatnot, but this seems like more than normal. Why so? Does it have something to do with the Restore function of the computer [where the backup goes that I made through ThinkVantage]?
Thanks.

Yes, it's because the recovery partition, same thing here on both my X60 and my Z60t.

Then why can't I see the partition in My Computer?

It's meant to be hidden from the normal user so that you don't accidentally mess it up.
To see this partition, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management. Then, under Storage, select "Disk Management".
The hidden partition should be the one marked as SERVICE001 (FAT32).

On another note, if I use the R&R and burn out a set of recovery discs, is that set of recovery discs bootable?

a new 80GB hard disk will show up as around 75GB on a computer because of convertion from base 10 that the manufacturer uses to base 2 that the computer uses.
that, along with around 5GB taken off for your hidden recovery partition, gives you only around 70GB.
on my x60 the recovery partition is 5.9GB. I made recovery cds and deleted the partition and right now i'm using it for back ups.
