The perfect x60 but it took a while
I just thought I would post my experience for all other x60 owners who may have experienced similar issues.
About 4 weeks ago I purchased a new x60. When it arrived I noticed the right palm rest was getting quite warm. I rang Lenovo and they took the laptop in to have a look. They sent back the X60 in 4 days with a new Planar and wireless card. However, the first thing I noticed were two major differences. While the palm rest was cooler, the CPU temps at idle were 10-15c above the previous planar/ cpu combo I had. In addition, the fan was noisy. Now most people could probably live with it but I found it annoying especially at night when you are lying on the bed and all is quite except for this noise.
So I rang Lenovo again. Their first reaction was that this was normal. My reaction was that I wanted the old planar back in. I could live with the heat more than the noise. After much debate they took back my PC. 3 days later I got it back and all I can say is WOW.
I have never had a laptop so quiet, the idle CPU temp is 15-20c less than my previous planar. The heat issue is no longer an issue.
I don`t know what they did but I can`t even tell the PC is working. Zero noise.

Hi, the CPU temp is about 37-40c at idle now. The first planar was at 45-49c and the second one 60-65.
APS temp am not sure. I use Vista Business and don`t know how to check it.
I was like you and was very worried about the X60 coming back in a worse state which it did the first time.
But I took the gamble to get it fixed. I also have a slight advantage in that I work for big blue and I was receiving courtesy calls from an account rep to let me know that they were prepared to do whatever it took to satisfy my concerns so I am pretty sure he spoke to the repair centre.
I figure they checked the temps, checked the fan, oiled it and who knows what else they did to get me a planar which was perfect. The main message from my post was that these problems can be solved with some effort but it may mean going back and forth a few times.
