I know this question has been asked in varying degrees before, but I'm hoping someone could give me an idea of whether it's worth waiting a month or two to buy an X60 tablet. The big question is whether having a Core 2 Duo will make a big difference (64 bit?), but does that come with much of a heat/power comsumption trade-off? An X60 will never be useful for games, etc so as long as it can run the basic office/internet programs, and occasionally photoshop, I don't see why it's worth waiting. But having said that, maybe there is something in the near-term cards that could actually be worth the wait?

I'm wondering too : would 64-bit help in what I'll do everyday ?

I'm planning to buy a Core2Duo X60t this summer, what I'll do is basic student applications : Mail/messenger/Office/taking notes in class.

Maybe some programming later, but that's not the point.

So, givent that I think I may not encounter any incompatibility, will I get some benefit using an 64-bit Vista ? I especially think about handwriting recognition time and accuracy...

I'm wondering as well, but I've made my decision. I will get a C2D when it comes out. C2D may do better on 64 bit applications, perhaps running Vista-64 as well. I guess we'll find out when they're released and someone does a side by side benchmark. Granted you are taking a step down in processor speed (from 1.67 to 1.5 GHz). Well, I'a actually waiting their integration in a student offer to buy it, so maybe this summer I'll be able to bench it. I read/heard something about the upgrade from Vista 32-bit to Vista 64-bit which should be free...

Interesting. Well just looking at the Intel numbers the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are definitely an issue. Does that increase in speed come at a major cost in terms of battery life/heat?

I could probably google this very quickly, but what difference will 64-bit cpu/vista make?
