(very) bad screen quality on X60s (1704)

Hi, I'm Francesco from Italy...
I own a T60 (2007-fxg) and a X60s (1704-5ug)...
I installed Windows Vista on both of them...
I've got many problems with X60s...
The quality screen is very dab...
white color is too bright...
characters ara blurred...
I can't use it... without headache...
Assistence has changed the screen...
but it's still the same bad one...
(the new screen also had a red fix pixel...)
I am afraid... quality of new lenovo models...
is drammatically low and bad...
I ask too you if anyone have my same problems...
many thanks...

For your headache...what refresh rate are you using? When it was available, 40hz made me feel ill but 50hz was better. I imagine 60hz might be better if 50hz bothered you.

the only refresh rate possible is 60...
I think it's not a question of refresh...
it's the lcd panel that is terrible...
I still have a x41 (model 2527-67g)
a 12'' lcd panel... that I'd like to have on X60s...
colors are fantastic and characters are clear...
much better quality... if you compare x60s with
"old" x41... that's no matter... x41 display
is insuperable...

Hi Francesco,
I have the same model of X60s as yours (1704-5UG). I'm running Vista on it and I don't have any problems at all. My refresh is 60Hz ...and true it can't be changed.
Check that you have the latest display driver installed.
Regards,
Miri

Check the drivers, check the cleartype, check your brightness is not 100%, because X60s does have a hell of a bright screen.

I also tried to modify some paramtres
and colours... in intel video properties...
but nothing... really nothing...
I'd like di take some photos and put
them on line to leto you know how
terrible is the display on my x60s...
Sorry, i repeat... but x41 lcd display...
is much better... really much better...
thanks...

You need to upload them to a web site and copy-and-paste the URL here. You're also required to give a warning in the thread's subject about the photos.

Well, is your resolution set at 1024*768 ? That looks really strange...

If you already have a Yahoo Mail account, you can upload photos to photos.yahoo.com.

I think something might be wrong with your lcd my x60s doesn't have those lines but its not a 1704 model

1704-5ug is the model number typed under the chassix...
I think building is inferior quality... to x41... you can easy understand touching them... opening and closing the lid... and so on...

Those ripples look terrible! I owned an X60s model 1704-3DU which didn't have this problem. You have a defective screen; it's not a normal feature of the X60s display.

that's right... ripples...
I also think so... the assistance service...
changed the lcd display... but it's stille the same...
I'll try to make it change again...

I carried my x60s to the Assistance...
and I asked to repair it... to find the true difect...
and repair it... I'll tell You something in few days...

hi guys...
Assistance told me that there's nothing to do...
after the lcd display... they changed also the motheboard... anche the "inverter" (I dont't really know what is...) but the diplay remains
the same bad display... not clean... not clear... as i wrote in other post... So I think I'll write a letter to LENOVO... to tell them that quality of my x60 (1704-5ug) is very bad... and certainly far from IBM quality that I used to have from IBM products... (as X31, x41, etc...)...

Sounds like they should just send you another unit.

I second that opinion. The product is unfit for use this definitely must be under their warranty to change it? If they don't want to change the unit you gotta problem there.

Francesco, I am afraid the photos are not clear enough to judge the quality of your screens. The lines on the photo of the X60s may be a moiré pattern caused by taking a photo with a camera that was not held perpendicular to the display. Note that the lines are not parallel to the bezel but converge on the lower center of the image. This is typical of moiré patterns that are not visible on the display itself but only on a digital photo of the display.
The resized images at the ImageShack links in your posts exaggerate the moiré pattern even further. Please compare the images in original size:
X41 display vs.
X60s display.
You write that the "white color is too bright" on the X60s screen. However, on your photos the white area in the Control Panel window doesn't even appear as completely white but full of red, green, and blue squares. Again, this indicates to me that we see in fact a moiré pattern or other artifact caused by your camera, not an actual defect of the display.
Lastly, you write that the "characters are blurred". To me, the text on the photo of the X41 looks more blurred than the text on the X60s.
Please understand that I am not saying that the problem you describe does not exist. However, the photos you submitted are not sufficient evidence to back your claim. I suggest that you place both notebooks next to each other, make sure that your camera is absolutely perpendicular to the screens and take another photo. It would be best if you could use a tripod to make sure the camera is pointing the right way and does not move during exposure. That way we can compare the displays in one and the same photo.
By the way, did you bring both ThinkPads to tech support? What do they say about the difference in screen quality?
