@all,

any idea if i will get the cingular wwan module of my x60 tablet 6363-95u working abroad, i.e. germany and south-africa?

will it be a question of what sim card i use or might it fail to work at all?

thanx for your input

They should work provided you apply for roaming services. If I'm not mistaken, those WWAN cards are sim-locked.

I'm curious about this too....you would think the WWAN is capable of working around the world because many thinkpads are bought and used by companies with workers travelling around the world...but you never know these days.

Hi Thormdac,

Yes it would probably report HW not found since the Vodafone and the Verizon modules are different. The Verizon I believe is MC5720 and the Vodafone is MC8755.

@bontistic,

indeed it is a mc5720. than again there is no actual need to upgrade the firmware, but to get it up and running.

what do i need to do in order to have it running outside the us?

I'd say same as my previous reply. You might need to register to a roaming service from your provider. Verizon Wireless in this case if using the MC5720. And then you can also go ahead and ask them which countries your WWAN card supports.

Other that that, we need an opinion from someone who has tried the card on other countries. It "could" work here in Japan with the provider AU which supports 3G CDMA (1x EV-DO).

ok , here we are:

http://www.sierrawireless.com/product/e ... rison.aspx#

the mc5720, as built into my us machine only supports us wwan frequency!

the mc8755, as built into european machines, supports europe, i.e. 2100 mhz.

so here we are back to the good old telefone days where we europeans could not use our mobiles over in the us due to missing bands. now its triband handys and all are happy.

just us business people travellin around the world seem to be put back into stone-age using our top of the range x60ts, and not being able to phone in the us!-or viceversa.

only solution: buy the appropriate card or work via pcmcia umts!
