This is kinda embarrassing but I just can't remove the screws for the keyboard at the back the normal screw drivers I use for the desktop PCs are not having a good contact with it. Is there any special screwdriver i need to get this open??? Or do I have to use excessive force(never ever had to use force for any other computer screw before).

A number Zero Philips has worked with all the thinkpads I've owned.

number 0 phillips is actually the size.

I am not sure about the X60s, but at least some of the T4x's have a Torx screw in the palmrest so that customers do not take it upon themselves to remove it. Torx is a six-pointed bit. If what you have is Phillips, then it will have four points. Most of the screws are Phillips. I recommend you do not skimp on cheap screwdrivers. You will likely damage the screwhead if you do.

I was a mechanical engineer who worked with aircraft for 9 years.

one of the lesson learn is always use the RIGHT screwdrivers for the job. If you destroy the groove, it will get harder and harder to tighten/lossen the screws later.

one precious tips I learn is that if some screws are 'stuck', instead of forcing it to turn it loose (counterclockwise), you can instead tighened it by a 'bit' (clockwise), just by 0.5 degrees. When the resistance is broken, then you can unscrew it easily. This is like thinking out of the box.

PS: I have not encountered any such tight screws in these Thinkpads before, normally my watchmaker screwdrivers can do the job. ie, make sure you are trying to lossen the right screws.
