Raxco PerfectDisk 8.0 and x60T ...unable to offline defrag?

#1 Post by pupster » Fri May 04, 2007 1:37 am

Anyone else had problems trying to defrag using PD8? I can't find a program that will consilidate my free space on my Vista partition so I can resize my partition w/out wiping the drive.

There's a KB article on the website referring to R&R which is rather unhelpful as to how to actually disable the driver in question (I couldn't find it on my hard drive, so I guess maybe it's an older version of R&R they are referring to...).

http://www.perfectdisk8.com/support/win ... 94&issue=3

"IBM Rescue and Recovery.
The Rescue and Recovery driver ANCSQ.sys prevents PerfectDisk's boot time defrag from running.
Disabling this driver prior to performing a boot time defrag should allow PerfectDisk's boot time defrag to run sucessfully."

Have you tried Diskeeper to see if that can perform a boot-time defragmentation?

I have tried everything, you name it. PD8, O&O and Diskeeper. I found this http://www.disktrix.com/DTTrials.htm which has the ultimatedefrag program.

This is unique in the sense that unlike the other 3 programs, you can set the 20% of the frequently used files to be stored in the FASTEST outer tracks in one continuous sequence. You then store the 80% infrequent used files on the innermost tracks.

For example, setting /windows and My Documents and /Programs in the outer tracks 'should' speed up the loading and running of the laptop.

Latest version reportedly work for Vista.

Did you end up seeing performance improvements when you used ultimate defrag?

Well, using all the disc fragmentor makes you feels good B-) But I have never benchmark whether it is faster or not. Probably save a second or two.
