The GAK installed on the X60 T
OK so my friend accidently started my tablet when they came in, and realized it was the wrong machine so he switched to his. I couldn't get a hold of him for a password, so I started the recovery process, and went to custom factory recovery. This is a list of the stuff you can choose NOT to install when restoring.

What can I just get rid of without thinking twice?
Also I cannot believe how freakin hot the right palmrest gets. It's insane. It actually hurts my hand. Is there a real fix for this yet?

I did a clean install from scratch (not using Rescue and Recovery) and this is what I re-installed:
Intervideo Virtual Drive
ThinkPad Easy Eject Utility
ThinkVantage System Update 3.0
If you do a "clean" install, I would suggest reading this blog... It's actually very well done and is what I used to do the "clean" install, with the exception of a few things he did not install.

I'd definately keep the Power Manager due to some of the battery conditioning it does and the more advanced settings.

Aggravated by Lenovo/Customs UPS problems.

Well so far my A31 1.6GHz P4m with XP Pro is WAY faster. We'll see how it goes after a few weeks when I can get all the gak off.
Can anyone tell me how to change the amount of video ram?

It didn't come with recovery or vista install disks. I'll check out the link!ewebb02 wrote:I did a clean install from scratch (not using Rescue and Recovery) and this is what I re-installed:

Thanks.
FYI, I'm handwriting all of this.

Are you able to play DVDs with the Intervideo Virtual Drive? I can't figure it out. I've managed to get the .cdi files created, then when I go to play the DVD it wants to use windows media, and then says it doesn't have a DVD decoder.

Vista is giving me fits and I didn't install all of this list. Is there a tweak guid out there? How do I get rid of all this cancel or allow crap? How do I get it to work EXACTLY like XP Pro? I am seriously [censored] about this preload.
I read the article about optimizing the X60 preload on X41 tablets for similar reasons. How do we do it with this one? I am not buying ANOTHER copy of vista for $350. to do a clean install when it should have been provided in the first place.
ARE YOU LISTENING LENOVO?!
for me, I will keep only Lenovo utilities:

and get rid of all other third partiy softwares
Because they will really slow down your computer especially the Norton Internet Security (get other anti-virus such as NOD32, BitDefender, AVG, etc.)
but if you don't want those Lenovo utilities, it's up to you (i recommend to keep the Access Connections for managing wireless connection, very helpful). for me i think they're still useful.

OK so I've restored it again and this time I only kept Easy Eject.
The needed Lenovo drivers are installed regardless.
System Update was running all the time. Apparently it doesn't only run manually like it does on my A31. Vista even said it was slowing down the shut down process. I ditched it for now. Maybe when 4 comes out I'll try it again.
I may have also found another solution to the Cancel or Allow problem
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... e1033.mspx
And to get rid of Defender
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... c1033.mspx
It took me days to find this solution.
You can turn off Security settings alerts too.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... 61033.mspx
I'll update this post as I find more useful info since there isn't relaly anyone with the answers replying here. I know if I had XP I'd have all the answers I needed by now. Vista is just too new.
Edit:
UPDATE: SO far so good. The computer is still not nearly as fast to boot as I would have hoped, but it's a big improvement, and operation after boot is working really well. It set me up automatically without Aero Glass, so I'm thinking Vista doesn't like my video card. It looks great IF it doesn't slow down the machine.
Does ANYONE know how to set the video ram size?
