I'm supposed to be able to put disc images on the hard drive. I cannot figure out how to do it. I opened the Intervideo software, that I assume is for this purpose. I have no idea if it can PLAY the DVDs, but it's supposed to be able to copy them to the HD and open images.
My DVD drive is a network share, and I can't access it from the program. Is there another way to pull a DVD image from a network share?

Let me clarify there IS NO DVD IMAGE or ISO on a network hard drive. I have actually SHARED the DVD drive that is mounted in my UltraBay2000 slot in my A31. I have managed to install my office software, etc, this way, but can't access it from the Intervideo Virtual Drive software.

if you mean you have DVD image such as *.iso, so you can mount it with your favourite CD/DVD image mount program (I recommend DAEMON Tools which is free and has lots of support format). After that you will have another virtual DVD drive pop up and you can play DVD movie from your favourite DVD player.

No, I'm trying to make a DVD ISO from my DVD on a computer that is on the network. THIS computer has no DVD drive. Obviously there is no way to install the Intervideo DVD image software on the other computer or I would just rip them there and transfer the files.
Also this Tablet doesn't appear to have any playback software. I was hoping it was built in to the Intervideo software since they also make WinDVD.

This intervideo software works much like Daemon tools, but allows like 12 images mounted at once instead of only 1. I'm going from memory on that.

Yes, that really upset me as well. Windows Media player can't handle the DVD playback very well. I thought about calling Lenovo to complain (since I purchased an UltraBase with a DVD drive with my Tablet), but am not sure if it will pay off. I have downloaded the trial and it works 100x better than media player. Media Player skips around a lot when at full screen and can't decode AC3 very well (it's at half volume) and when you are on a plane, that doesn't work very well.

Why don't you guys just download VLC for your player... And download dvd decrypter to make the ISO's? Both are free.

I made an ISO but VLC didn't work. It tried though. Any more ideas?

I would use Alcohol 120% to make ISO's
also you get a free trial download.
This is the easiest way to make ISO's from any cd dvd etc...

Sorry, you use daemon to mount, and VLC to play. Didn't mean for the earlier post to be offensive.

I recomend the following for media playback (video):

Media player classic + ffdshow

It handles just about everything I can throw at it.
I use the version that is included with quicktime alternate, but it is also available seperately.
You can find the latest version at : www.free-codecs.com

You will have to mount the DVD image in order to be able to play it.

Btw I use foobar2000 for audio playback, also recomended. no bloatware.

Not offensive at all. I appreciate all suggestions, and was looking for more ideas.

VLC will NOT play the file. I created the ISO, I loaded it with Daemon tools. VLC won't play it. It will show still images and it will play the audio, but no video playback at all. Windows Media says it doesn't have a DVD decoder. I can't understand why there would be a tool to create images built in to the computer then no way to play them back.

That link crashed firefox 3 times, so I did a search and I found ffdshow, but it was pretty old. Does it work with Vista?

Wow.... so much trouble... Other than for software installation CD's, I'm not going to bother with ISO's at all.

I rip DVD movies using 1ClickDVDCopy (along with AnyDVD), so that I don't use up ~8gb of HD space when I don't even notice the difference in quality when its compressed down to ~4.5gb (and this is only for the long movies... some movies only need a little compression if any).

Then, to watch the movie, I just drag the VIDEO_TS folder into WinDVD. Its basically the same as telling WinDVD to "open by folder" (or something like that). No mounting necessary, WinDVD understands it. In fact, for movies that are just a single VOB file (basically an mpeg, if I think), I've dragged the VOB file into WinDVD, or renamed the extension to .mpg, and opened it in Windows Media Player.

I've been doing this for a few years now, ever since I started authoring my own DVD's for the video's I edit. Its the way I test out a DVD interface and content before burning to disc. I did this with my Tablet for the first time last night, with a VIDEO_TS folder for Pirate's of the Caribbean II on my desktop/server hard drive. It worked just as I expected.

My tablet didn't come with Win DVD. Maybe that is the problem. I have noticed if people restore other systems and don't have win dvd installed they get the same message from windows media player. Then I get the phone call as if I know how to fix it. Now I guess I need to find out. Microsoft suggests I buy a software dvd decoder.

I downloaded Intervideo WinDVD and that did the trick. Even Windows Media Player works now.

Seconded. Another source for recent compiles is Celtic Druid: http://celticdruid.no-ip.com/xvid/

Also, if you search for and download "Real Alternative" and "Quicktime Alternative", it will allow Media Player Classic to playback Quicktime and and RealMedia files as well.
