I am joyfully the proud new owner of a X60 Tablet -- long before the May 15th ship date. Perhaps the premature delivery prompted my baby to be admitted into the neonatal ICU (local Lenovo approved tech shop) for repairs...that and/or my novice status as a new tablet owner.

HELP :( needed for several areas please:
  • I ordered mine through the Lenovo website and did not realize when I ordered the ThinkPad x 60 Tablet power accessories pack, the original unit had the battery charger and AC adapter. I could have just ordered the 8 cell battery, right?

I also ordered a fingerprint scanner, because it was not clear to me a scanner came as a standard part of the unit.

Am I able to return the USB fingerprint scanner and the Power Accessories Pack and then order just an 8 cell battery? It would save a LOT of money.

I have been reviewing several posts about a "clean install". Is there anyone who is willing to guide me with a solid installation sequence, in general?

As noted above, I had to drop my unit off to a local shop today for support. I had trouble with the very early basics....
    • * I created a windows password and then the
      * "passport ??" for the secure bit on the hard drive.
      * I selected and carefully answered the 3 questions.
      * Next I successfully scanned a thumb and finger.
      * Following their lead, I restarted the computer so the passport and the scan would be sync'd.
      * I swiped and then it did not recognize my passport.
      * I repeated :( this several times.
      * Then I went to the 3 questions and it repeatedly did not recognize my 3 answers.
I tried again this morning, unfortunately with the same results. Surrender flag in hand and tail between my legs, I called the Tech support and we could not fix it by phone. <<I am glad I have the drop off warranty.>> Fortunately I did not get any further into the install than this -- nothing major will get wiped out with the techs fixing it.

Now, I am feeling very timid about proceeding once I get it back.
:?: When one goes to secure a certain amount of space, it pre-selects 100 MB. Is this what most of you do or shall I look to do more?

The Windows Tablet PC 2005 comes installed on it. I will need to install the One Note and Microsoft 2007 Pro. :?: Is there an order that I should follow with this?

I did get mine with the bluetooth technology. I have an Ethernet cable modem connection for our desktop PC. :?: Do I go to circuit city or the like, to get the proper thing to create a bluetooth connection to this, or is this something I coordinate with the cable company?

Since I don't have the wireless connection in my home --YET-- and I want to get the nab32. :?: Can I order 2 (desktop and tablet) and then transfer the one to the tablet via a thumbdrive?
humbly yours,

I will answer your blue tooth question.

You will not be using BLUE TOOTH to get onto your internet access. You should have a WIFI card. I'm pretty sure at least one WIFI card is standard so you should have one. Bluetooth is for connecting wireles mice, cell phones, etc. It's like a wireless Serial port, like USB 1.1 and the old Serial ports.

You can go to your local computer store, comp usa, or best buy and pick up a WIFI Router. You will unplug the CAT 5 network cable from your desktop computer and plug it into the WAN port on your new router. You will take the CAT 5 cable that comes with your Router and connect it to LAN PORT 1 on your router, and connect the other end to you desktop PC where the other cable used to be plugged in. You will reboot your cable modem, plug in your new router, and boot up your desktop machine. Verify your internet is working. If you get a LINKSYS router I can walk you through securing yoru WIFI connection so the neighborhood isn't piggybacking on your internet service. Otherwise you might read the directions, but FIRST.......
Turn on your X 60, and be sure the WIFI Radio is turned on. There is a switch for it under the Latch slider. Next look for the windows wireless zero configuration utility in the taskbar. Click on that and select your router and click connect. Once it's connected you should be able to go to the internet.

When you configure your router for security, you will also have to configure your X60 to connect using that security. This is where it CAN get a little complicated but I would recommend reading the instructions for the wireless router thoroughly.

If you get stuck come back and ask us some more questions.

I hope this helps. I received my X60T today and I'm currently remote desktop to my A31 thinkpad which I'm typing this on.

Thanks for the clue on the Blue tooth and the recommendation for LINKSYS WIFI router. Once I get the X60T back, I will give it a go.

Congrats on your new unit as well!

For me I bought a WiFi card for my desktop and connected to my laptop via an ad-hoc connection and Internet connection sharing. Works pretty well.
My dorm doesn't have wireless and doesn't allow routers.
