Another x60 v x60s v x61 question

I'm thinking of buying an x60s 1705CTO with an Intel® Core™ Duo L2400 LV (1.67GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB) 12.1" UltraLight XGA TFT.

Would an x60 be much faster? Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB) 12.1" XGA TFT? From prior posts, this model would seem to be faster, but not a lot faster.

Will the x61 or x61s be much faster than the x60s? I like the x60s for the lighter weight and brighter screen. If speed differences are not very high (which seems to be the case based on the posts I've seen), I'd buy now with the current sales prices. I'd assume all would be much faster than my x31.

Will all of these run hot under the right palmrest when using wifi, or has Lenovo solved that problem? Is there a significant difference in heat among the models? I'd get the atheros wifi card.

The Core 2 Duo chips are supposed to be 25-30% faster than the Core Duo at the same clock speed. If you wait for the X61s you will be getting a Core 2 Duo L7500 (1.66 ghz) as well as the GMA X3100 graphics chip which is far superior to the GMA 950 found in the X60s.

i think those numbers are severely off. if i remember correctly, the merom processor (the Core 2 Duo) proved to not be that much of an increase in processing power OR a decrease in battery life over the Core Duo's.

for what it's worth, I am going to be ordering a very similar configuration for a friend of mine tonight. obviously, it'd be very nice to be able to get the new santa rosa chip in a couple of weeks, but i also think that this memorial day sale they are offering right now is too good of an offer to pass up.

besides, if the next sale is nearly as good when they release the x61, you can change your order, so long as the thinkpad hasn't shipped.

From what I'd heard, the speed difference is relatively small.

My main worry is a very hot right palmrest when using wifi. Otherwise, the x60s looks rather appealing.
