Is the x60 heat issue solved?

#1 Post by richarddd » Fri May 25, 2007 7:12 am

There are numerous posts about the right palmrest on the x60/x60s getting uncomfortably hot, especially for wifi users. A few suggest lowering wifi power settings or replacing the notebook to solve the problem, but others suggest there is nothing to do.

Does the heat problem still exist?

Any reason to believe it will be better on the x61?

Right palmrest is still hot on my X60s. I basically gave up and live with it. It's not bad in winter. In summer with high volume WiFi traffic it can become quite hot.

My T60 also has a hot palmrest and one thing that I do is using an external mouse so that my right hand doesn't spend as much time touching the palmrest.

In an other post (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ght=manual), sugo has noticed that according to the hardware manual the location of the wirless card remains the same under the right palmrest in the new X61s. So if you buy a X61/X61s with the same Intel or Atheros WiFi card that are used in X60/X60s the heat problem may not dissapear.

The new ThinkPad X61s series offers however as an option an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. What I am curious about is whether this card emits less heat that Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card that I have in my X60s and - if so -whether it would work in X60s as well.
