PCMCIA speed low?

PCMCIA speed low?

Today I received my brand new Transcend 8GB 266x CF card with PCMCIA adapter. While it was installed without issues on my X60s data transfer is painfully slow.
500MB took 25' to write. So Vista ready boost will be no way possible with this setup.
I thought PCMCIA transfer should be a lot faster?
