X61 Tablet, X61s, and X61.

Well, it looks like ithe Santa Rosa X is about to become real and ready for purchase. And, there may be an initial sale to get the ball rolling, too! Yes, there is turbo memory. Look at this page:

I doubt that they are - those are the exact same as the X60 tablet Memorial Day sale prices. I don't think they'll be cutting $500 off of the price of a newly-released machine.

very cool, so maybe they will launch it this week after the current model sale ends. That would be great.

I keep thinking that they might not launch the tablet for some time for some reason. But this page looks promising.

I was told by a Lenovo rep that the tablets with Santa Rosa would not be coming for some time. I was impressed that he knew what Santa Rosa was without me having to tell him, so I think he might know something about release dates, but maybe not.

I think you may be correct about this delay. The pages that have started to appear have mostly shown only x61 non-tablet models and are missing the tablet info. I wouldn't be surprised to see more time before it comes out. Like not this week...

As for the "sale" price shown on the pages, this is probably tied to the X line in general. Still, I would not be surprised if the unit were introduced with some sort of incentive to get the ball rolling. Computer makers like DELL always have some way for you to perceive that you are saving something. It would be surprising if Lenovo didn't do something to tenderize the price considering the competition out there.

As for when the X61 tablet is coming out, I would bet for the 31th of this month. The ivory letter stated this date, and there is a landing page with both the ultraportable X61(s) and the tablet.

It's getting closer!

Not much improvement has hit the X-series. The X-series lack two things (IMO):
a) the screen resolution is too bad. The X61T has a higher resolution screen; Why can't the regular X have it?
b) It should have ultrabay (preferably) or at least a dvd-drive. Acer and Sony have gotten drives in their 12" laptops. (Yes, I know one can get this with a dock, but the ultrabay is one of the greatest things about Thinkpads. It should be usable one the go too)

I would not mind if they made a 13" X if needed.

Good catch, yggdrasil. How are you scanning all the non-US sites? Manually?

As for RasmusP's "Not much improvement," I think that the US version will have more than the Danish as can be seen by the new landing page. (The ivory letter even point out that certain features are not available in certain areas.) Since the Danish page links to accessories that go into the ultrabay, I expect it will also be an accessory you can buy. As for the screen res being good or bad, it was the chip set that refreshed not the screen. I think we may have to wait a bit for new screens to filter up to the tablet. I'm sure that the mutitouch screen is particularly specialized. However, as pointed out in a different thread, wide screens are becoming common and 4:3 is becoming rare. Economics will change screen res in the near term, but prob. not this week.

There is similar data for the X61 and X61s.

Interesting tidbit from the document IE PPG Standard 06.07 : The X60 Tablet is listed as having 7.5 hrs battery life with the 8-cell, but the X61 Tablet only gets 7.0 hours.

According to the same document, neither the X61 / X61s nor the X61 Tablet will have an infrared port as an option.

What gets me here, LOL, is that the image on the page has red stripes on the mouse buttons. I think it's not even an X60 image, perhaps a X41?!
