Bluetooth gone awol

#1 Post by birchanger » Thu May 31, 2007 6:47 am

I recently had to reinstall Vista on my X60s, and my Bluetooth adaptor seems to have disappeared! It used to be there under Vista before. I suppose it could, just, be a genuine hardware problem but that seems unlikely somehow.

Attempts to upgrade firmware, reinstall drivers fail as device isn't detected. Anyone hit this before?

Exact same thing with my machine, X60 running XP, but I didn't do an install...it just disappeared on its own. Trying to fix it as I type. If I find a solution I will post it.

Make sure it is not hidden in the BIOS. Press F1 when you start and go to the network config page and scroll to the bottom.
Even after you Enable it you have to turn it on. You may need the hot key utility for that.

I spoke to Lenovo support while I was overseas and they said to try a factory restore (easy fix from their side, I guess). Well, bluetooth is nowhere to be found. I am forced to order some restore CDs and see if that helps.

After the factory restore, press Fn + F5 and see if bluetooth is listed there. If so, try and turn it on from there.

If you are using Vista, check in Mobility Monitor and see if it can be turned on from there.

There is no Bluetooth listed in Fn+F5, no Bluetooth in the tray, and no Bluetooth options anywhere on the machine

Must be a hardware failure then. Probably need a new card, although there is also a chance that it is a motherboard problem.

Did you check the BIOS?

So, I checked the Bios and Bluetooth was enabled. I downloaded the current drivers and installed them. Still no Bluetooth.

I guess I am forced to sending it in to tech support.

When things go wrong, they really go wrong.

Does anyone have experience with how long a machine is out of action?
