"Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected&qu

#1 Post by ibear » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:53 pm

I powered up my X60 this evening and a message from the Message Center told me that "Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one". However, I checked the Power Manager and it says that the battery is in good condition. VERY confused.

Anybody saw this message before? Is the battery really damaged somewhere?

Several other users have reported seeing this message. AFAIK, no consensus has been reached regarding this. Of course, the safe thing to do would be to replace the battery. If your notebook is less than a year old, the battery may be covered under warranty.

Mine says the exact same thing. Happened after I updated to the most recent Bios.

It's most likely a bug of some kind but do as GomJabbar suggested, make use of your warranty.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Got this message on my 6-cell T60p battery. Given all of the battery problems of late, I immediately pulled it out and called Lenovo. They mailed me out a new battery right away.

So then what, do they send you a box to send back the old battery so you don't have to dispose of it?

You can either mail back your bad battery in the box that the new battery came in or you can take the bad battery to an authorized disposal place. I mailed mine back to lenovo. They include a shipping label, so there's no charge to the customer.
