I know it's still early to tell, unless some of you already have one these babies.

But does anyone know where the wireless card is located in these new X configuration?

Can anyone make a comment if this machines have the right-hand palm-rest heat problem?

My right hand has been very toasty with my X60s, and I don't like it anymore...

Its the PCI-e wireless card. It has been a problem forever on X60's and will never go away. Its great in winter time, however.

The X61 models have some reworked cooling, but I have not yet seen any comments on this from the few people that have received their X61 so far.

man... that's discouraging to read. my friend just ordered an x60s completely on my recommendation.

how bad is it on a scale of 1-5 (1 being barely noticeable, 5 being unbearably hot)?

I wouldn't be too dicouraged. The machine itself is great, but the heat on the palm rest is very noticeable for me.

But I have to say that my model is one of the first batches that came out. If you read around, you'll get comments that newer models are not as bad, i.e., Lenovo did something: either put some shielding on the palm rest itself, or they have a different wireless card.

With mine, whenever I'm doing heavy duty downloading and work (coding and running a couple of servers), I would say it's a 3. Almost a 4 when I remember how much I paid for it and my blood boils from the fact that the machine is so hot

I have noticed that if I reduce the power on the card, the heat comes down but so does the network speed. So I put up with the heat. Like I said, the machine is really great.

there will be a 2nd fan for the x61, which is located right next to the mini pci-e slots. but it will be standard only on the wwan models though(hmm page 79)
at the least, you will be able to add the second fan if there is heat problem.
this will solve the heat problem but will add weight and reduce battery life...

I juts got my x61s yesterday and have been using it quite extensively today both powered and on battery..and both connected to the lan, wireless, and using my built-in wwan. Not that hot that I notice... but then again I didnt have any problems with my previous x60s either. Looking at the two the x61s has vent slots right under the right hand palm rest... right above the usb ports. Perhaps, this is due to the fact I have the built-in Verizon wwan.

Don't let people let you think its unbearable, because its not. The only times it gets significantly hot is during heavy DL'ing. Normal use it is fine. Not recommending the notebook on this one issue would be absurd. But I am glad you in fact recommended it to a friend.

I agree with Turbo Audi. The right palm rest on mine is warm at times, but I've never viewed it as a problem. Having this much computing power in such a small form factor is going to create some tradeoffs, and I'm very happy with my X60.
