X61, X61s and X61T specific feature differences
I'm considering upgrading from my X31 (that I love so dearly). Unfortunately, it does not fetch much money anymore on places like ebay...
Anyhow, I'm considering either an X61, X61s or X61T. However, browsing and searching the forum, researching lenovo's site and "googling" I come up empty handed on the difference between the three. Worse, is the fact that lenovo's site does a poor job of explaining these things, IBM used to do so much better. So here are some questions:
1. Other than brightness, is there any other advantage to Ultralight screen on X61s?
2. What is Super-wide viewing angle 12.1" XGA screen? Just wider viewing angles? This only comes on the X series tablets only?
3. What is the SXGA +resolution on the X61T? Do you actually get the SXGA resolution on the 12.1" screen or is that how touch sensitive the screen is? Can you get this on the X61s?
4. X61s seems to only come with a wireless CDMA or Cingular Card option (WAN), but not without either. Is this correct?
5. Is there any difference other than tablet function on X61s and X61T? This in terms of dimensions and quality, for instance the hinges on my X31 is awesome, but the tablet seems weak....
Hopefully somebody can help me,
Unless I missed it, this forum should have a FAQ specifically for the X6x series. I see many of the same questions over and over.

1. Ultralight is also lighter
2. The tablet screens use FFS technology (rather than TN or PVA), which provides better viewing angles and more accurate colour reproduction.
3. It is SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen resolution on the same size display. Not available on the X61 or X61s.
4. X61s does exist without WWAN but depending on where and how you are shopping, such configurations may or may not be available.
5. The tablet has a better display and a high-resolution display, but weighs substantially more -- more, in fact, than the X31.
P.S. Please add your location to your profile!

Crud, that didn't make it any easier to choose. However, SXGA+ on such a small form factor is very tempting.... but the weight added is about a pound! That puts it almost in the weight class of T series 14.1"....
I'm leaning towards an X61s now, due to the extra weight. I like portability and if I'm almost at the weight of a T series, I might as well get a T series. Although, tablet features sounds neat, but wonder how useful it is in practice.
Do you know if the X61s also comes with the super wide viewing angles?
Any expected development in the X61 series in the next 4-5 months? Wish they would come out with Solid State Disk and full encryption on thinkpads hard drives. I have budgeted an amount for a new laptop that has to be spendt by the end of the year.

Given that the timespan from X60 to X61 was about 15 months, and Intel's next-gen Montevina chipset is not due out until 2008, I'm really not expecting to see an X62 (or X70) this year.
However, that doesn't mean that Lenovo couldn't add SXGA+ or FFS panels to the X61 -- that's a smaller change. Very hard to predict that, though.
I was thinking about X61 tablet, too, but it's substantially heavier and I really don't expect to use the tablet a lot. SSD is interesting but I need a fair bit of disk space so right now I'm thinking X61s (or possibly X61) with an aftermarket 7K200 and a 4 GB SD card for ReadyBoost would do quite nicely.

Oh how I hope they add SXGA or SXGA+ to the X61/s that would be a dream come true.
Part of the weight increase on the X61T is the thicker display frame and the touch screen, not merely the higher-resolution LCD itself. The increase in pixels more directly impacts the power consumption as opposed to weight. So far as I can tell its the same volume of liquid crystal, just divided into smaller blocks =)
Anyways, I really want to ditch my T60 and grab an X60/s with a resolution higher than XGA!

This probably sounds silly, but it is obvious. None the less, I will ask anyhow.
Is there a significant size different visually between the tablet x61t and the x61s? I did refer to the tabook.
I wonder if there is a place I can go and see them side by side, in the bay area or Sacramento (I commute a lot).
What uses do a tablet have that can't be done on a normal laptop?
It seems so far, other than weight the X61T is getting the works!

As you probably saw, then, it's all in the thickness: 1.1 inches rather than 0.8 inches.leesiulung wrote:s there a significant size different visually between the tablet x61t and the x61s? I did refer to the tabook.
