X61t 8 cell battery for 4 cell battery

Hi all,

First, hat's off to everyone in this forum for the advice and camaraderie. It has helped me through various ThinkPad ownership experiences. Thank you all! :D

I recently put in an order for a X61t but as many of you noticed, only the 8 cell battery is being included with no other option, or sold as an accessory during the ordering process. As a fairly mobile user, the X61t, sans battery, already has a larger weight profile than a X40 I used. I do not plan on using the 8 cell battery when the machine arrives (I am told in 3 weeks but do not know how Lenovo is doing on ETAs recently).

Do any of you have suggestions on how to get a new 4 cell battery for the new 8 cell battery? Anyone interested in trading it or have ideas on how to get Lenovo to do so?

Thanks!!

I just bought the Tablet 4 cell battery (FRU#40Y8314) in addition to the 8 cell. I figured I'd run off the 4 cell most of the time and then plop in the 8 cell when I need to travel. I didn't try to get the 4 cell instead of the 8 cell...

After all is said and done, an additional 4 cell battery purchase exceeds the budget. Anyone willing to trade one for a 8 cell battery, both being new? Or is the weight of the 8 cell worth the additional battery life? I heard the X61 tablet is less energy efficient than the X60 tablet.

dude the weight is nothing. I don't notice at all with the 8cell on my x61t. btw, this thing can last like 6 hours on low power settings on this battery. I would think that would be more important to a mobile user than fractions of a pound in weight.

Really? I did not bother installing it and weighing. Does it protrude out too far from the tablet body?

Can this battery protrusion be used as a handle for gripping safely or will that warp the tablet body?

I do not have my X61t yet but have heard (maybe from a review) that it was pretty solid and could be used to hold the laptop. Or I could be making it up, if I find the review I'll post it here but just think I remember seeing it somewhere about the battery serving as a good hold.
