Question on memory configuration

#1 Post by albertz » Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:51 pm

I've been reading this forum for some time. And I'm about to place an order for an X61s (running Vista Business). But I'm confused by the memory configuration part.

I think I'd be getting 2.5GB of memory: a 512MB DIMM from Lenovo and buying a 2GB DIMM from Crucial, like this deal at buy.com
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... caid=15890

My question is this: is it a workable choice? why doesn't Crucial's memory advisor tool show it as a possible configuration? (It does show up when searching for product number 112803 though.)

Thanks in advance.

It is, however it won't work in dual channel mode.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thanks so much for pointing it out!

My choice would be to replace the 512MB DIMM that comes with the X61s with a 2GB kit (2 DIMMs) from Crucial. The question is then, is the standard DIMM removable?

Thanks.

All RAM chips are removable.
