WWAN switch from Cingular to Verizon

#1 Post by LENOVORICK » Sat Jun 23, 2007 1:45 am

I ordered my 61x tablet on the 6/20 and lord behold it will be here Saturday 6/23 or 6/24 didnt even have time to make a minor change, since I made an error in getting the cingular wann instead of the Verizon wann. I would like to know if there is a way to switch the chip manually once the table arrives.

thank you

You can replace the card but I am not sure that Lenovo will allow you to do an even exchange. You might have to buy the Verizon card from Lenovo.

If you don't mind waiting for another laptop you can return it and exchange for another one. As long as you don't break the shield you won't get charged any restocking fee.

I would hate to return a perfectly fine tablet just because of the Wann. So your saying that the wann switch can be done manually? I was thinking the chip was inside the unit and it was not possible for me to do it.

These cards are not cheap (I would guess around $300), and I am not sure Lenovo would even sell you one. You also take a chance of voiding your warranty if these are not Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) as I believe they aren't. If you want the other card, return the laptop and reorder what you want. You should be able to set up the return and order a different one on the same phone call.

You can get the pdf service manual from Lenovo's website. The WWAN is a PCI Express Mini Card and easily replaceable. The problem is the cost and availability which you can find out from Lenovo.
