Upgrading x61t with Intel 3945 a/b/g to 4965AGN

#1 Post by broman » Tue Jun 26, 2007 9:15 am

Hello,

in Germany the x61t model UU394GE is available much more cheaper (~ $ 550) than the UU395GE , because of a lenovo student promotion.
The only difference between the two models is the wlan-adapter. While the UU394GE has only the 3945abg, the UU395GE comes with 4965AGN.
Put in the 4965AGN in the UU394GE would of course be no problem, it is only a mini-pci card. But the question here is: Do all models have the three antennas needed for wlan-n and only the wlan-adapter-card differs or are there really different numbers of antennas built in the different models.
If the models with abg-wlan only have two antennas it would be all but impossible to "upgrade" wlan to n - disassembling the display is no option for me. If they all have three antennas it would be absolutely no problem.

Perhaps there's someone who know anything about? :)

Sorry, this is slightly off topic, but does this UU395GE model have Bluetooth. I am buying new X series but bluetooth isn't listed on this - UU395GE - model. Do you know, maybe...does it have one and isn't listed?

Yes, it should have Bluetooth. I got confirmation from a few dealers and in tabook, the US-equivalent 395U is described with Bluetooth 2.0.

I can't seem to find information regarding bluetooth availability in this model 766683G --> HERE that is the closest to what i'd like to have.

Do you happen to have any "shortcuts" or at least help me find the US counterpart and i'll try to find out the rest... It's really strange why they don't put whether it has BT or not. It says yours doesn't have one on the website, although it actually has it ... odd.

thanks for helping me out.

I looked in the tabook and I think all x61s models have bluetooth because it is listed under the general features without any (model-)exclusion. At the x61t it is written "Bluetooth: All except..."

If you want to be sure 100 percent you should write an email to lenovo. That's what I also did because of my uncertainness regarding the UU395GE.

My emails to the Lenovo Germany support were usually answered within 2 to 3 days - my question to the US-address was actually answered within 3 hours!
