Can someone help bring some clarity to my understanding of the situation by answering a few questions:

1. I want to order a X61T with SXGA+:
-Why has that option disappeared from the Lenovo website?
-What is the realistic delivery/wait time on these laptops?
-Why the f*ck is the Lenovo website such a pain in the [censored]?

2. What are the "options" in the customization process that if selected are going to cause delays?

3. Can the Intel Turbo Memory option be self installed at a later date?

That thread is a mess people are posting all over the place without being clear what they have ordered so its confusing as hell and conflicting... Hoping someone can clarify it all in this thread

We are talking about X61Tablets with the SXGA+ only.

I checked the site just a minute ago and it still has that option, though mistyped as "SXGA" (without the "plus").

1)It's still there. Look for the MV SXGA screen. It's a typo and is really the SXGA+ screen.
2) The screen. If you want one, any one, it'll cause a 3-4 week delay.
3) Check the forum. There are threads that indicate "Yes" you can install it later.

As to the availability question. MojoSND found this source of immediately available X61 tablets:

However, you should note that none of the available models have 7200RPM drives (but that can be upgraded later for $$$), none of the models appears to have 802.11n (also can be upgraded later for $$$) and I suspect that they none of them has the "ThinkPad Accident Protection" that you can order from Lenovo (for whatever you may think that is worth). Be careful also in that some models show "In Stock" on the list page, only to indicate that they are a 2-3 week wait on the details page. Also note that if the model has WWAN, I don't think you can add TurboMemory.

However, if you need your X61 tablet now, and do not mind the compromises these machines represent, then there are 23 left as of this post.

The "SXGA" screen is available--it's actually SXGA+ (double-checked in tabook.pdf)--the website is completely wrong. That this error remains on the website for over a month now, the whole Core 2 Duo availability thing with the X60t/X60s back in March, the disappearing/reappearing models, etc is just proof that Lenovo's website does suck. If I was a manager at Lenovo I would be firing whomever was responsible (and still as) for ridiculous mistakes like this--is Lenovo's website supposed to be that of a global corporation or a teenager running a website from their garage?

3. Can the Intel Turbo Memory option be self installed at a later date?

Yes, it's a simple mini-PCIe card to install. You can get a a 1 GB TurboMemory card from Amazon.com for half as much as from Lenovo. I'm not sure it makes sense to get this now, at least not for double the price from Lenovo: the benefits have not yet been proven, it's remains relatively expensive (as with other flash memory products, prices can only come down), and is also relatively small (Intel will probably soon introduce 2G and 4G variants).

You can remove the WWAN PCIe Card and install the turbo memory card after downloading the proper drivers from the internet.

Realistic times are probably in the month range if you build using the web site or do a call to order (CTO). If you need it now, it is best to find somebody that has stock and settle for not having exactly what you would like. If you want to assure that you get the screen you want and that there is no confusion, call Lenovo and order on the phone. Write down the name of the rep and his team leader once they assure you that you are getting the SVGA+ screen - that way if they goof you are covered. (I doubt they will goof, though.)

What is up with Lenovo? I think that they have a premium specialized product for which there is a lot of demand and no way to increase their build capacity. I've heard much about the use of uncommon screens, etc., which means they are limited by their suppliers. I seriously doubt that Lenovo is specifically attempting to NOT sell as many units as they can. There is just really too much demand (and they are absolutely an international company, especially in high demand in Asia).

BTW, my X61 tablet was worth the wait.
