New battery no longer charging

#1 Post by Broohaha » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:42 am

I purchased a new battery on eBay (seemed like a legit seller and not an OEm ripoff; an 8-hr, extended battery for $92, shipping included) and it was working great for about a month. Suddenly yesterday, the charge meter stopped showing a "time left" number and changed to a percent #. Also, the battery no longer seems to charge. According to the battery info in the Battery meter program, this battery was manufactured on 3/14/07 by Sony (is that a problem? shouldnt it be IBM?) and was first used by me in 6/07. It has only gone through 26 cycles. Under the "status" field, it lists "no activity" even when it should be charging.

Should I badger the ebay seller or should I try to get at this via warranty through IBM?

This is a very common problem for the X6* batteries. My X60s's 8-cell, genuine IBM battery also suddenly died. Many, if not most, IBM batteries are made by Sony; IBM/Lenovo just slap their own stickers on them.

I don't think the eBay seller was responsible for this. Contact Lenovo and get them to replace it for free.
