#1 Post by aMadUrchin » Fri Jul 13, 2007 2:03 pm

My power adapter for the X61s makes buzzing noise, is that normal?

It also gets really hot

mine too. I'm gonna call lenovo and complain about both that and my hard drive making excess noise.

Same problem with my wife's X61. It almost sounds like the power adapter is singing by itself. I put it 4 feets away and it is still louder than the hard drive and the fan, especially when the cpu usage is high or the DVD-RW on the X6 ultra-bay is spinning up.
Have to call Lenovo.

Can't help myself chuckling after reading your post.

Sure, you should get in touch with lenovo, they'll send you replacement.

It would be helpful for everyone to share the FRU number of their silent and buzzing ac adapters.

I know certain FRUs are silent and some are noisy for T42.

FRU 92P1159

This is my "silent" adapter.

I should point out that I have not abused my ears too much, but I still have trouble hearing sin waves over 17,000 hertz. Each person is different. I attempted to record the slight buzz the device makes with a mic - the only way I could hear this was by putting the brick right next to my ear, but had no luck - I had the 20db mic boost on and my speaker system had too much white noise at nearly 90% volume. The fan on my system is far louder, but that is not something that bothers me all that much.

my humming adapter has FRU: 92P1155

If I compress the adapter with my hand I can change the pitch of the sound
