Question about Power Manager update

Hey guys,

I checked up on the drivers page for Lenovo and discovered some new updates that might help me solve my problems. More specifically, this new one to Power Manager:

adds the feature:

(New) Added new feature of enabling/disabling 'CPU Deeper Sleep'.

This could solve my buzzing problems by not allowing the computer to go into the C4 state!

However, one major problem, I installed the update and restarted like it asked me to but when I opened Power Manager, I couldn't find the option anywhere! I seriously have been looking for like 20 minutes. Can somebody help me out and download the update and see if they can find it?

I have an X61 tablet by the way.

I'm quite sure you cannot specifically enable/disable the new feature (deeper sleep). From what I read it looks like the new feature is active automatically once installed.

Well, the buzzing still occurs during C2 <-> C3 transitions.

Hmmm... Where did you read that?

I looked all over the README.txt and it seems that it should be a feature that you can enable/disable rather than something that's automatic.

I didn't specifically read that it is a feature you can select. I assume that it is not a selectable feature since it doesn't say specifically.

Heh this is weird.

I restarted my computer and there it is! It's right under the Maximum CPU Speed setting in the "System settings" for Power Manager.

i also had some other questions about this.

1) what is the deep sleep that this is talking about? is the deep sleep the highly-touted windows vista suspend/hibernate hybrid?

2) if it is the hybrid sleep mode, i always thought that it came automatically with windows vista? did this update enable this deep sleep mode? or is it just giving you the option to disable it, if you'd like?

3) lastly, i see people are talking about the buzzing noise. i thought this was primarily with the CPU throttling down DURING use, not during sleep modes.

1) Deep sleep mode is a state (C4) where the CPU throttles down to the lowest level, thus using the least amount of power. This is unrelated to the Windows Vista "Sleep" mode which is akin to "Standby" in Windows XP. The feature you mention is called "Hybrid Sleep" and is an option in the Power Options/Power Manager.

2)Hybrid sleep does come with WIndows vista. The update allows you to enable/disable the computer from going into the C4 state. Why they are allowing this? I don't know. It doesn't solve the buzzing for me.

3) The buzzing noise does come from the CPU throttling down. It also has to deal with the USB power in someway because when I keep them always on, the buzzing drops dramatically. You are correct, it has nothing to do with sleep.

heh... my name is n00b because this is the first thinkpad I've owned. Pretty excited about it too!

I have the updated power manager on my X61s and I don't see this...wtf?
