X6 Ultrabase Compatibility?

#1 Post by bosston » Sat Jul 14, 2007 11:52 pm

Finally received my new X61 Tablet yesterday (been on order since 5/31). I am looking to buy a 2nd ultrabase for work (got one for home from lenovo). Problem is these X6 Ultrabases seem to have MANY different part numbers... mine is 41W6720. Many I've found on the internet are different, even if listed specifically for the tablet. Should I be worried these bases are not compatible?

The tablet UltraBase is different from the standard X60/X61/X60s/X61s, but all the X6 tablet UltraBases should be the same.

Thanks for the quick reply... how about the ultrabay slim drives? I assume any DVDRW or CDRW listed as an Ultrabay Slim device will slide right into any ultrabase?

Welcome neighbor to the South.

Any of the Ultra Bay Slim Drives should work.

I just learned this when my X61 tablet arrived here at work this morning. The connector is the same but the dock different. The batteries are also totally different. I guess that there is no difference between X60 tablet and X61 tablet but between X60 and X60 tablet there are many.

Is there an FAQ on this?

X60 tablet ultradock and drive ordered...

at least the DVD and the power adapters are the same...

They often change part numbers when they make running changes.

Anyway, be glad we're not in the X2/X3/X4 forum - the X41 Tablet people don't even get an UltraBase!
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

I was freaked out by this as well, what parts fit with what? But I found this document:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf

It was a like a light being turned on! Now here was the model numbers for the various units, what they had in the them, and what the accessory model numbers were. I coudl then search on those *specific* model numbers and have some reasonable assurance the parts go together.

For example, my X61 Tablet 7767-B7U can take Tablet Ultrabase 41U3120. What makes an Ultrabase a "tablet" one? I don't know, but this is what we got and it fits.

A *lot* of the X61 resellers don't list whether the unit has a Multitouch display since they have no category to select on that feature. This document tells you. Now why was it so hard to figure this out?

[Still struggling to put XP on the X61 Tablet... :-(]

Nothing to be sorry for - just reminding everyone that there is a lot of information to be found in the How to's and FAQ conference.
