X60 Tablet a good choice for me? (+ question about Vista)
X60 Tablet a good choice for me? (+ question about Vista)
I am looking for a tablet PC for around $1500.
My main use will be taking notes during class, MS office, and studying.. possibly some light photoshop. So really nothing too intense like video editing or gaming. This laptop would not be a desktop replacement.
Is the x60 tablet my best option? (i'm assuming all of the x61's will be out of my price range even on eBay)
A side question: the x60 comes with XP, but I have heard that Vista can learn to recognize your writing better over time and so it is much better for Tablet PCs.. is this true? Should I upgrade the x60 to vista?
I initially actually was looking for XP b/c I haven't heard many positive reviews of Vista, and I would be concerned that the processor and 1 GB of ram in the x60 wouldn't run Vista very well. If you think I should upgrade to vista do you think I should upgrade the ram to 2GB as well?

With the Visa discount (through http://www.usa.visa.com) you can get an X61 tablet from $1509, so it might be in your price range after all. And you can pick up a high-quality 1 GB module (for 1.5 GB total) aftermarket for under $50.
The processor is plenty fast for Vista, and the integrated graphics are fine, too. So far the recent reviews on these forums for Vista from X6 tablet users are quite positive.

X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)
this is a great discount, thanks!
looks like i'm getting the x61. i'm surprised it only comes w/ 512 MB of ram. But like you said, I can always upgrade later for cheaper.
my only big problem with it is that i start school in 2 weeks and i really would like it here when I start (though I know that's not going to happen).. i hope it gets here not to soon after, but I have heard they can sometimes take a while to ship

Oh nice, i hope you're right. I feel good about my decision. It has everything I was looking for and more.snife wrote:You made a good choice - the X61T is fantastic and Vista is the only sensible choice for a Tablet, XP Tablet Edition just feels so wrong in so many ways once you've used Vista, its just so much more intuative.
My brother got the x60 tablet. I'm wondering if we will notice significant differences between the two.. We will be upgrading his to Vista probably.
