Software update unable to process package information

Does anyone have a guess as to why Thinkvantage Software Installer is unable to complete the download sequence and "process package information?"
I recently installed a CA's security suite with firewall, but have tried to disable that and update software again, but that doesn't work.
I do have a few products in my deferred list that I am waiting to install. Could this be the cause?
Maybe it's a setting on my X60? My CA security is unable to update itself also. Awkward. I haven't changed anything on the system since it worked last time.
I have XP Pro with 2GB RAM
