Atheros wireless for X61

#1 Post by mfbernstein » Wed Jul 18, 2007 3:28 pm

Will the X61 accept any Atheros mini-PCI-Express WiFi card, or only particular models? I assume those for the X60 should work in the X61 as well, right? I'm looking to swap out my Intel 3945ABG.

I believe you can - as long as the new card has the right connector (Mini-PCIe) and you have drivers for it then it should work.

On a side note, were you able to get the GMA X3100 graphics acceleration working in Ubuntu 7.4? I'm curious if the default driver enables 3d or not. Try running 'glxgears' and see if it renders well (quickly and smoothly).

No accelerated graphics for Ubuntu yet, sorry. I tried the beta X drivers from Gutsy that somebody backported, but any attempt to run 3D stuff resulted in a hard crash after a few seconds (glgears oddly worked fine).

Thanks for the info. on the Atheros. Looks like I'm good to go!

Hmm, I tried surfing the ubuntuforums over the weekend and I found that many people got the driver and 3D rendering working.

Either way, given a few more weeks I'm sure the driver will become more stable. I'm not worried given Intel's current linux-platform driver development path.
