Standard 3 year depot warranty : ~$100

For 4 years, it has to be bundled with completecare ($350)
There is no 5 year option.

This worries me .....

worries you? AFAIK, most manufacturers don't even offer more than 3-4 years up front... I've seen some that allow you to purchase additional years at the expiration of the initial warranty, but im not sure if lenovo does.

i'm pretty sure you can add additional time to your warranty after or near when it expires

my father recently upgraded his warranty on his t40p for another 3 years.. i'm not sure if it is the exact same warranty that was originally offered, but i know for certain it was offered through ibm/lenovo

For other laptops (eg T60, t61), there is an option to upgrade to a 5 year warranty, but not on the X60 tablet. Wierd ?

Would a 5 year laptop be of use to you, though?

Wild speculation: in five years, your laptop will be an ubiquitous commodity item or appliance, like your cd/walkman/mp3 player, and you'll wonder why you spent the money to warranty a slow, outdated, overpriced X6x tablet for so long .

Yes!!!!
My 6 year old T30 just died, and I was using it regularly.
I do have a Dell precison M90 (which is great), but I want something lighter when I go travelling. As the hotels I've been to dont have safes, I have to carry the laptop everywhere. An older, lighter, cheaper laptop would be perfect.

I'm just ammortising the cost, A $1600 laptop that lasts for 4 years -- cost is $400/year. A laptop that lasts for 6 years - cost is $267.
I can justify spending $267 for a backup system.

Look at it this way-by the time all of your warranty coverage is up, replacements parts will be much cheaper than they are now. You will be able to get used parts off of ebay and replace what is needed.

Just a thought...

I upgraded to a 3-year warranty with protection (spills). for my new x60t. It was worth it for me to upgrade from the lowly 1-year depot warranty it came with.

As for my old T21, it came with a 3-year depot warranty. After that expired I bought a one-year extension. A phone call was all it took.

I dont think there is the option of extending warranty beyond 3 years or the X6x tablet series....

This doesn't really help if your motherboard or LCD croaks.

I bought a two-year warranty extension for my X31 because the price works out to something like $10/month and the peace of mind is worth that much for me. Knowing that the model has a history of motherboard/graphics chips problems didn't hurt.

Check to see if you can add your laptop to your personal articles policy as part of a rider to your homeowners insurance (provided you own your own home of course)

My policy with State Farm (confirmed orally and in writing), not only protects my laptop from theft, but from accidental damage & breakage as well. It basically guarantees i'll have a working laptop for the length of time I keep the laptop on the policy.

$0 deductable for myself as well; however, I wouldn't be surprized if I made a claim, my rates would go up.

Get at least 3 years (that's what I typically recommend - by 3 years, laptops are cheaper, lighter, and faster,) and for the love of $DEITY, get ThinkPad Protection. Seriously.

(You won't believe how many laptops we've had repaired due to accidental damage at work. (They're Dells, but the average ThinkPad would've PROBABLY been damaged, too. (That's another note, though... last I checked, ThinkPad Protection was only depot service, you couldn't get on-site service if it was a TPP claim (even if you had on-site for your warranty,) whereas Dell treats a CompleteCare claim just like a warranty claim, except they do less investigating if you have CompleteCare.)
