Laptop screens dim after (how many) years

I've just heard that laptop screens on many makes and models of different vendors dim after a certain amount of time.

Now I am curious... what's the time frame when one would notice a difference? If thinkpad is your main computer, using it 8+ hours daily, would the screen dim after 2-3 years?

Thanks, i'm really curious about this...

I really have never seen that. Unless you count backlight failure as dimming. :)

Hehe, not backlight failure but backlight losing power. My english is bad and sometimes, when i write something down, I can hardly understand myself and what i'm trying to ask. Probably because I am nervous because I have to wait for another 25 days before my new Tablet is here :)

Since the backlight is basically a fluorescent tube, and over time we know that these type of lights will start to slighty lose their brightness, an LCD can become dimmer over time. I have seen it happen myself with a number of Thinkpads, some being worse than others. As far as determining a set time period when it starts to occur, well that will vary. But normally I have seen it start after about 2 to 3 years of regular use. It might not be much of a difference, but there is a slight difference from when it was new.

My X21 was just starting to dim after five years, and even then it was only when the screen first came on...

it is more than what its value for a Thinkpad to use up to 5 yrs.
as we know, there is no perfect IT prouducts out there. In fact, tts Technology gets obsolete fast.

AFIK every ligt bulb or fluorescent tube, depending on it's quality has an average expected number of "light hours". I have seen some displays advertised with 3000 light hours which is equivalent to almost 3.5 years 24 x 7.
I have looked all over to find the specs on TP displays - wo success.
